IVEProject: Payment options for expanded participation in the IVEProject

The International Virtual Exchange Project (IVEProject) is an online collaborative project where students from more than 20 countries use the English they study in class to interact with each other and improve their intercultural understanding. It was previously funded through a JSPS Kaken grant until March 2022. Since then, it has been supported by Adam Jenkins, Eric Hagley, and a very small number of generous others.

Running the server costs money. In particular, features such as the forum report require significant server power. In the May–June 2024 exchange, overuse of the forum report even brought the server down. We therefore need either more server capacity or reduced use of heavy features. As a result, we now offer optional paid access to some expanded features. These options may change over time, but currently include access to tools such as forum reports, discussion metrics, and additional administrator support.

Payment options for expanded participation in the IVEProject

We are introducing several options that allow you to support the project and help keep it healthy for years to come. When making a payment, please use the same email address you used to sign up here, or email Eric at eric@iveproject.org with the email you used.

Textbook Option

The preferred option is for students to use the IVEProject online textbook "Ticket to the World." When students use the textbook, both they and their teachers gain access to all available tools.

Non-Textbook Options

Basic expanded participation

$US50 / group (maximum 50)

Teachers gain access to the forum report. The report is run once a day, and results are available for viewing the following day.

IVEProject Silver expansion

$US100 / group (maximum 100)

Includes added assistance with student registration and workshops, and students can participate in the official weekly real-time video calls.

IVEProject Gold expansion

$US200 / group (maximum 200)

Reports and other access to student participation are organised for you, helping ensure smooth interaction with peers around the world. Includes tutorials, registration support, workshops, and real-time interactions.

$US350 / group (maximum 500)

The same as the Gold option, but for larger groups.

More Ways to Support the IVEProject

Participation in the upcoming IVE conference. The next conference is planned for 2026. Those who participate will gain the basic expanded access option outlined above for the next IVEProject. Participation costs $US50 and includes access to all presentations, workshops, and recordings.

For educators who wish to carry out their own virtual exchange, we offer access to a private course where only your students and your partner class are added. Students can interact there in a more focused environment. The maximum is 100 students, and up to 5GB of data can be uploaded, which is more than enough for most exchanges. For courses with more students, please contact Eric at eric@iveproject.org to discuss options.
