Exchange communication guidelines
Full policy
As you participate in the exchange, we ask that you do so in a spirit of learning and care.
We want everyone to have a positive experience communicating on the IVEProject. One of the main goals of this project is for you to have meaningful conversations with international peers, and we need your help to make that happen.
Things to do
- Be kind and open-minded. Respect other people’s opinions.
- Before starting a discussion, search other posts. If someone has already started a discussion on the same theme, reply to that discussion instead of starting a new one.
- When starting a new discussion, give it a clear title that shows what it is about.
- In discussions, focus on learning about other cultures and sharing your own. Ask questions.
- Try to reply first to students who have not yet received a reply.
- Read your post carefully and check for mistakes before you submit it.
- Access the forums as often as you can. Aim to visit them at least three times a week.
- When replying, show that you have read the other person’s post. Answer their questions, make comments, and ask questions about what they wrote.
- Include multimedia in your posts when appropriate. Adding a photo or video can help communicate your message more clearly.
- Use your own language. Do not rely only on AI or other online tools when communicating with others. AI may help you improve your writing, but first try to express your ideas in your own words.
Things not to do
- Do not post any information unless you are comfortable sharing it with other students.
- Do not share your home address or telephone number.
- Do not write very long posts. Try to keep each post under 100 words.
- Do not copy and paste from the internet or use AI to create your posts or replies. What you post should be your own work.
- Try not to use translation software. The IVEProject is an opportunity to practise your English.
- Do not share any information from the site with people outside the site.
- Do not post words, sentences, images, or media with inappropriate content. Avoid swear words, offensive jokes, or photos that may cause cultural misunderstanding or conflict.
